Among the charities to benefit from Markerstudy Group’s 2023 fundraising activities were Macmillan Cancer Support, which received more than £25,000, and Alzheimer’s Society, Markerstudy’s charity of choice for the year, which received over £10,000.
Throughout the year, colleagues across the business took part in activities such as organising sponsored walks, running half marathons, baking cakes and washing cars to raise just over £100,000. The remaining amount was a combination of employee payroll giving and donations made by the Group’s charitable giving committee, Motiv8.
Reflecting on a busy year of fundraising and volunteering, Lizzie Smith-Foreman, Markerstudy’s director of group marketing, communications and sustainability, said: “We’re focused on supporting our local communities, so it’s been wonderful to see so many of our colleagues challenging themselves and engaging in such worthwhile activities throughout 2023. And what a tremendous result!”
Markerstudy’s volunteering initiatives in 2023 saw more than 1,250 colleagues spend nearly 6,000 hours giving back to causes that mean the most to them. By the end of the year, colleagues had also donated close to 2,000 items to charity through the Group-wide ‘Donation Station’ initiative that encourages colleagues to donate items such as warm coats and jumpers for the homeless in our communities.
In addition, customer donations via Markerstudy brands BGL Insurance, Brightside and Lancaster Insurance to Auditory Verbal UK, a charity providing deaf children with access to auditory verbal therapy, totalled just over £21,000. Auditory verbal therapy equips parents and caregivers with the tools needed to support the development of their deaf child’s listening and spoken language.
In the run-up to Christmas, the Group also donated a total of £5,000 to charities including Save the Children, Crisis, The Salvation Army, the Trussell Trust and the RSPCA.
Markerstudy’s charitable activities in 2024 will focus on its colleague charity of choice, Macmillan Cancer Support.
