Gruelling event raises over £48,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Markerstudy’s annual Charity Challenge this year raised more than £48,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, almost double last year’s figure of £25,000.

On 14 June, a total of 47 colleagues, including members of the Senior Leadership Team, spent 12 hours completing either a 26-mile or 14-mile hike while taking in some of the best views the Peak District has to offer.

“I’m so proud of everyone who took part in this year’s challenge,” said Lizzie Smith-Foreman, chief marketing, communications and sustainability officer. “The many hours of training the team put in really paid off as both the terrain and the weather were extremely testing.

“It was a great privilege to be involved in my second Charity Challenge and so rewarding to see our challengers bonding and supporting one another during the day. It’s wonderful to know that we’ve nearly doubled last year’s fundraising figure for a cause that’s close to many of our hearts.”

Commenting on the impact of the Charity Challenge’s fundraising total, Ellie Webb, corporate partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We’re so pleased to be Markerstudy’s Charity of Choice for 2024, and what a way for them to demonstrate their passion and determination to support our cause – they’ve smashed their initial target of £30,000, and instead raised an astounding £48,000!

“This amount could help our Cancer Information and Support team run our Macmillan Support Line phone service for a whole week. In that time, they could deal with more than 2,000 calls and web enquiries from people who want questions answered, or need practical or financial support. Thank you to everyone who took part for their hard work to fundraise, train and complete this amazing challenge!”

In January, a vote featuring more than 600 colleagues chose Macmillan Cancer Support as Markerstudy’s Charity of Choice for 2024. The charity will benefit from all Markerstudy fundraising activities this year.
